We are in Tupelo, Mississippi after living with a number of breakdowns.
Our first problem was a seized air conditioner compressor. Quickly diagnosed and fixed with the prompt application of a razor blade to the belt, we were on our way within minutes. As everyone who owns an old car knows, one fix can prompt another need, such seemed to be the case with our Trans Am when a belt noise appeared out of seemingly nowhere. Now running in a black car with no air conditioning, the constant squeal of the slipping belt was our music. At lunch, Restore a Muscle Car guys helped by adjusting the belts, but the squeal remained.
Our problem seemed to be a fan clutch. Ours was new, but failing.
That problem was just a minor annoyance. The next challenge, a rear wheel that came loose to the point of being held on by just one, almost fully backed off lug nut.
The group rolls into Alabama this afternoon. My next post will have details of day One and Two.
