Cars That Matter "BLUE CHIP" Index
The Cars That Matter "Blue Chip" Index of the Automotive A-List is a stock market style index that averages the values of 25 of the most sought after collectible automobiles of the post-war era. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars*. The term "Blue Chip" at one time referred to the highest value chip at a casino. Since the 1920s, "blue chip" has been a stock market term for the most stable and consistent stocks.
It's a case of the rich getting richer— the real estate collapse, the prospect of five dollar a gallon gas and a looming recession haven't affected the pinnacle of the market. The Blue Chip average has nearly doubled since Cars That Matter Volume 1 in the fall of 2006

Cars That Matter "PRINCE OF DARKNESS" Index of British Cars
The Cars That Matter "Prince of Darkness" Index of British Cars is a stock market style index that averages the values of 21 of the most iconic British sports cars from the 1950s-70s. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars. British cars were known for sometimes dodgy electrical systems supplied by Lucas, whose founder, Joseph Lucas is affectionately referred to by legions of British car owners as "the Prince of Darkness."
After Big Healeys hit over $100,000 and a pretty Triumph TR4 sold for $97,000 at a Florida auction, a few people started hyping British sports cars as the next big thing after muscle cars. Cars That Matter readers know that a few isolated big sales do not make a market. Nevertheless, our favorite Brits have appreciated at a modest rate and are certainly a heck of a lot more fun than a Certificate of Deposit

Cars That Matter "ROSSO CORSA" Index of Ferraris
The Cars That Matter "Rosso Corsa" Index of Ferraris is a stock market style index that averages the values of 13 of the most sought after street Ferraris of the 1950s-70s. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars. "Rosso Corsa" is the name of the iconic Italian car color. It literally means "racing red."
The Ferrari market has typically been the canary in the coalmine of the collector car world. In 1990, a speculator-fueled crash in the Ferrari market took the rest of the collector car market down with it. Today, the speculators and briefcase brokers are long gone and savvy end-users are going after the best examples of the rarest and most desirable Ferraris. Intense competition for these cars has resulted in a nearly 250% increase in the Ferrari market since Cars That Matter Volume 1

Cars That Matter "SMOKEY BURNOUT" Index of Muscle Cars
The Cars That Matter "Smokey Burnout" Index of American Muscle Cars is a stock market style index that averages the values of the rarest and most sought-after muscle cars. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. "Smokey Burnout" needs little explanation for anyone who has ever watched a big-block beast under the lights, weekend nights at their favorite drag strip.
Cars That Matter is certainly not breaking the story that muscle car values are off, but we believe that we are the first to look at and track values using a definable index. Frankly, things aren't as bad as they look. While values are either down or at best steady almost across the board, it isn't anywhere near the crash of 1990. Prices have simply rolled back to roughly the level of Cars That Matter Volume 1 from the fall, 2006

Cars That Matter "SILVER ARROW" Index of German Cars
The Cars That Matter "Silver Arrow" Index of German Cars is a stock market style index that averages the values of 21 of the most sought after cars from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche from the 1950s-70s. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars. Silver is the national racing color of Germany and the world beating German Grand Prix cars from the 1930s were known as "silver arrows."
Iconic cars like the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and Porsche Speedster have an international following. These days, Europeans are riding the wave of a strong currency and repatriating fine examples of great German sport and GT cars. The Silver Arrow cars are up nearly 50% from Cars That Matter Volume 1

Cars That Matter "ATOMIC JETFIRE" Index of 1950s American Classics
The Cars That Matter "Atomic Jetfire" Index of 1950s American Classics is a stock market style index that averages the values of 19 of the most sought after collectible American automobiles of the 1950s. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars. "Atomic Jetfire" is an homage to classic 1950s marketing hyperbole like "Jet-Sweep Styling."
American classic values have plateaued of late primarily because outside of Scandinavia, there isn't a large international market for huge American cars. Still, the good news is that they aren't down as dramatically as muscle cars and they are poised to come back strong when the real estate market settles down and the economy returns to solid footing

Cars That Matter "Small Cap" Index of Affordable Classics (Under $30K)
The Cars That Matter "Small Cap" Index of Affordable Classics is a stock market style index that averages the values of 12 undervalued cars, priced under $25,000, from the 1950s-70s. The table below lists the cars that make up the index and their values from Cars That Matter Volume 1 through Cars That Matter Volume 6. Values are for #2 condition cars. In the financial world, "small cap" mutual funds are funds made up of companies whose market capitalization falls below a certain threshold.
Cars That Matter's sources in the motor trade have reported that the low-end of the market is the sector that has been affected the most by the real estate bust and the slumbering economy. Still, while essentially flat, there are still bargains to be had and it isn't though values have dropped off a cliff
